by Shivani Chotalia on Jan 5, 2015 - 11:22 PM EST

Hi Everyone,

Welcome back to school! I hope you've enjoyed a fantastic break and are ready to jump back into the EWB world! Here are a few things we've already got on the docket:

Advocacy Panel - January 22

We're hosting a panel of MPs and speakers to discuss Canada's foreign policy and current position on foreign aid. Don't miss this exciting discussion and be sure to check out the Facebook event for updates.

Food Systems - Composting Initiative

Our Food Systems Team has submitted their proposal to the University to improve Western's composting system! They're going to need lots of help from the chapter as they continue researching and moving forward on this initiative this semester.

Member Learning - Conference Prep

This week's member learning will focus on learning more about EWB as an organization, our 5 year vision and how we plan on acheiving it. It will be a great look into the organization for all members, and is a must for anyone coming to conference.

Reminder that we're having our first Planning Meeting of the semester tomorrow at 5:30pm in SEB 2094. We have a lot of planning to do this semester with lots more things including Art Auction, Youth Conference, and the Global Engineering Competition not to far away!

See you tomorrow!

Planning Meetings: Tuesdays at 5:30pm in SEB 2094
Member Learning: Thursdays at 5:30pm in UCC 65

uwoewb EWB is concerned about the information presented in today's article from the Ottawa Citizen and what this means for Canada's role in the post-2015 development agenda. The decline in the Government of Canada's contribution to ODA points to a troubling trend. This, despite 2015 polling data that shows the majority of Canadians not only believe it's important to improve health, education and economic opportunity for the world's poorest people, but that doing so is our moral obligation as Canadians. EWB would like to see Canada reverse this trend and increase our investment in global poverty reduction with an eye towards the post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals.
