By a Malawian, for Africans--converting sugar and yeast to power?

Saw this on the boingboing.net stuff blog, wondered if anyone else had heard anything about it. Apparently it's an invention by Dr. Cedrick Ngalande in Malawi, that converts sugar and yeast into power to charge cell phones, or run computers.

Has anyone heard about this Afrigadget initiative? And is this a reasonable power source?

Sugar and yeast make alcohol and during the process the solution expands and gives off CO2 which he, apparently is harnessing by releasing it through a valve. Sounds reasonable!
